Giving back

Chick-fil-A’s founder, S. Truett Cathy, believed a “great company is a caring company.” His vision of caring for others continues to inspire us today — as we fight hunger in the local Canadian communities we serve, provide Team Members with leadership training, skills development and educational opportunities, and continually look for ways to bring additional sustainable practices into our restaurants.

Caring for others through our food

A meal should be more than just food that tastes great — it should also nourish the body and spirit. Through the Chick-fil-A Shared Table™ program, Chick-fil-A Operators address food insecurity in their neighbourhoods by donating surplus food from their restaurants to local soup kitchens, shelters and non-profits. In Canada, we partner with Second Harvest to help deliver nourishing food to those in need.

Caring for our planet

We work to conserve resources and lessen our environmental footprint across our restaurants. From reducing food waste and what we send to landfills to recycling plastics and decreasing energy use, we believe in helping protect and care for the world we share. We also continually look for other ways to work towards adding more sustainable practices into our restaurants, like engaging in oil reclamation at our restaurants so that used cooking oil can be converted into renewable diesel. Also, by sending pre-squeezed lemon juice to our restaurants instead of whole lemons, we’ve removed the equivalent of the emissions produced by 689 gas-powered cars annually.

Thanks to partnerships with businesses like Chick-fil-A, we’re able to rescue perfectly good, healthy, surplus food and redistribute it to noniprofits all across Canada, every single day. We’re working towards a future with no waste and no hunger, and this is only possible with strong partnerships and cross-sector collaboration. We’re very grateful for the support from the Chick-fil-A Shared Table program! Winston Rosser, Vice President of Food Rescue, Second Harvest

Caring for people

From wellness programs and community volunteering engagements to leadership opportunities and a supportive work environment, we foster a culture in which everyone can thrive and belong. We also recognize many of hardworking restaurant Team Members may be balancing work with their studies — and we prioritize supporting their education. Since 1973, Chick-fil-A has invested more than US$162 million in scholarships to help more than 93,000 Team Members throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada pursue college degrees.

When I think about sustainability in my restaurant – through recycling, composting or other efforts – I prioritize those initiatives because I know they will have a positive impact on future generations. Olivia O'Brien, Owner/Operator of Chick-fil-A Kitchener and Cambridge Centre

Caring for our communities

From our local, independent franchised Operators in Canada to Chick-fil-A, Inc. Staff, we are devoted to serving the communities in which we operate. Our True Inspiration Awards™ program is one way we help community non-profits expand their impact, by giving grants ranging from US$30,000 to US$350,000, with a collective US$5 million awarded annually in the US and Canada. Read more about Canadian True Inspiration Award grant recipient Yonge Street Mission and how the organization is making a difference.

We also support others through the Chick-fil-A™ Community Scholars program, which helps pay for the education of leaders beyond our restaurants who want to continue learning. We award at least twelve US$25,000 scholarships annually in the U.S. and Canada, and interested Canadians can apply online.
