It all started in 1995 atop a lonely billboard in Atlanta, Georgia. Armed with a bucket of paint and a desperate desire for self-preservation, a pair of rebellious cows brushed three simple words that would quickly become etched in Chick-fil-A® culture: “Eat Mor Chikin.”
For more than 30 years, these iconic cows have been on a mission to steer the world’s appetite away from burgers and toward the chicken sandwich. Along the way, they’ve become much more than just promoters of poultry; they’ve become legends of mischief. From making surprise appearances at Grand Openings to showing their love for their local community at school spirit nights to even starring in their own TV commercials, the Cows have brought a unique brand of joy to millions of Guests around the world.
Now Chick-fil-A is officially rolling out the red carpet — or rather, the green pasture — for the Cows in Canada. On July 14, 2026, Guests will have a chance to celebrate Canada’s first-ever Cow Appreciation Day®, when you can join the herd by showing their spots. By donning your finest cow-inspired attire and heading to your local Chick-fil-A, you can get in the spirit with our favourite Cows and enjoy a complimentary entrée as a reward for your “moo-vellous” efforts!
But how did this quirky movement begin? Who are the faces behind the spots? And why, after all these years, is a group of cows still urging everyone to Eat Mor Chikin? Let’s dive into the story of the herd that captured our hearts.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Herd:

Who are the Cows?
The Chick-fil-A Cows are a boisterous bunch of bovines on a mission of self-preservation! While these mischievous friends are much better at saving their hides than they are at spelling (it’s not easy trying to use someone else’s language!), they’ve been having a blast since 1995, using their hand-painted signs to hilariously convince humans to “Eat Mor Chikin” instead of burgers. The Cows will not rest (or go back to grazing) until every person is committed to eating chicken instead of beef. They have been spreading their message for more than 30 years across TV, radio, social media, stadiums — and more. They have even been inducted into Madison Avenue’s Advertising Walk of Fame.

What is Cow Appreciation Day®?
Some say Cow Appreciation Day® is the most “amoosing” way to get a free entrée. On July 14, Chick-fil-A celebrates both its bovine friends and Chick-fil-A Guests. Coming to Canada for the first time in 2026, Cow Appreciation Day® honours the mischievous Cows and their mission of self-preservation. It’s a chance for Guests to support the herd’s “Eat Mor Chikin” cause by wearing their moo-st festive attire and visiting their local Chick-fil-A for a free entrée and fun!

How can I celebrate Cow Appreciation Day®?
To join the party, simply wear cow-themed attire to any participating Chick-fil-A on July 14, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., to receive a free entrée and join the fun! Cow costumes can be simple as accessories or DIY with taped or coloured spots on clothes. Or you could wear a full head-to-hoof ensemble! For more information on the day, click here!
